we’ll see the last of you

I have an exciting creative project on the way! flower flower2

And such a pretty nail-do, I wonder whether it will last longer than the 2 hours it usually only lasts.

Short life updates, if you’re interested:

#1 I'd turned 20 recently if you didn’t know. Midway to middle age!

#2 Semester four starts next week. I’ll be more than halfway through with my degree then. Too scary!

#3 Can’t wait for World Stage this weekend! Lucky bugger hamster gets to interview Katy Perry! O.o

#4 How d’ya like my new layout? Thanks very much to beautiful vintage blog shabbyblogs.com for the background and header! It’s a temporary header though, but I’m guessing with my procrastination it’ll probably be here for quite awhile. :D

#5 I started a Books I’ve Read page, do check it out. It’s a good way of keeping track! What more with the Taylor’s Book Club that we’re starting in the new sem, I guess it’s a great idea to encourage people to read.

#6 I’m still recovering from a severe bout of pharynx-gitis, which made it painful every time I swallow even porridge or water. I think my cousin caught it from me though, oops!

#7 July was really lethargic and unexciting. August & September looks bright though! :)

hidden gems

I am of the opinion that there are 3 kinds of regularly updated blogs: the really good ones with high readership, the specific niche ones with slightly higher than average readership, and the hidden gems with low readership. The lousy ones with low readership don't get a mention because 4 types of anything is too much and distracts the reader's attention.

Anyhow, I'd like to think that im the third kind. Only because I think too highly of myself to call my blogging style 'boring' and it also cannot be denied that readershp has declined greatly ever since I imported all my older posts away to 'start anew'.

Here is why I think the hidden gems have such low readership:

1. Most people feel intimidated by the intelligent musings and words we use in our writing.

2. They cannot think deep therefore find our cryptic short or wordy blog posts frustrating.

3. They prefer to write about 'what I did today' & they think that every personal blog with no specific niche should do the same. (BTW I've thought about it and I think that my niche is 'personal musings' which should be interesting enuf for u bitch cos I am awesome and breathing the same air with me automatically renders you a fan of me). No, really, im not joking.

4. Our blogs are not 'socially up to date'. Meaning we dont blog about latest events which actually generate quite a bit of search hits, believe me. But then we're not event bloggers so its excusable if all we wanna do is wallow in self-pity all day long and write long cryptic emotional posts.

5. We do not 'promote' our blogs enough. Okay okay so I mention my blog in almost every opportunity I get, but this is not what i meant. I just don't take the effort to do what many bloggers do which is for example, try to get clicks from joining contests in fellow bloggers' blogs as well as some who (un)selflessly go in to every blog and leaving a "Nanged..." comment in their cboxes. Those going to blogs and leaving proper comment are acceptable because they take the effort to. Unlike ppl who "Clicked on your ad!" and tells the whole world so.*

You might say I've sour grapes but I do hv (a certain level) of self respect! Writing whatever I like whenever I want for whoever who wants to read is what I'll do and what I'm doing, and that should be good enough for me, even if not for you.

Really, sometimes I think I'm too philosophical for my own good.

*no apologies if thats what you do.

had a little brown weekend!

Brownies

Not having food weighing machines and measuring cups makes it slightly harder to bake stuff. However I can always rely on the good ol’ instant bake mix or just rely on the ‘agak-agak’ method which however has yet to prove its success. I guess I’m not really good in guessing games.

Brownies2

Amazing how a little icing sugar makes everything looks 10x better.

Ingredients & instructions:

1. One instant baking mix of whatever brand you like.
2. Follow the instructions.
3. Be prepared to adapt and expect a variation of whatever you see on the front box cover.

bon odori ‘10: simplified

Tanglungs

dancing

Car parked miles away, long walk to stadium in the middle of factories area, milling in claustrophobic sweaty crowds, overpriced Isetan food, grass wet with melted ice, non-Japanese people in yukatas, familiar music and dancing in the centre of the stadium…same old, same old… <More pictures here>

I want to go to the Penang one next year, I heard that there were fireworks too!

Oh and join Taylor’s Book Club here!

tumblrized

Did you know that I have a tumblr? Have been postponing announcing it until I find the perfect theme, but then I realized there there's no such a thing as 'perfect'.

why do people say ‘happy’ before ‘birthday’?

Lights off

I read a book the other day. ‘The other day’ being months ago as this is actually a draft post. Anyway, what I wrote was that the logic (of the story) was in this: whether you’d want to live a long but sad life or a short but happy life.

You know, I’ve never expected to reach 20. If you ask me what I see myself in 10, 20 years, or even 5! I wouldn’t know what to say. It might be because I have not yet ‘planned for the future’ or maybe because I don’t see myself still here then. Morbid I know, but you know when they say (in books): “I’ve always somehow known deep insid e…”, well, I believe that deep down we all know what is true and what is not.

Like the fact that I’m not looking forward to grow up and be ‘responsible’ and all the shit that comes with being an adult. I’m perfectly fine being ‘young’, able to make mistakes and not be blamed in the way that adults are! I watch people older than me make mistakes and I think that they should not because they are not allowed to, because they must have had so much experience as to know what is the proper thing to do, the right and diplomatic thing to say. But as I watch them say things that I never expect them to, and do things that even I myself know is wrong…I lose confidence in them. Generally, in adulthood.

What gives you the right to do those things? To say things like that? To make me feel that you do not deserve respect? And respect is the most important thing you would want from me. Not for me to love or like you, but respect definitely comes first.

I don’t want to grow up and make mistakes. All I want right now is to be able to go off and have that craved ice kacang in another state at just a moment’s notice.

I hate birthdays.

sem #3 round-up

Semester three of my degree in Taylor’s ended about a month ago. Three more weeks to semester four!

Sem 3 was a little different, as we did half of it in our old TCPJ campus and the other half in the new Lakeside campus.

On one of the last days

Raffi presenting

The last presentation we ever did on the last day in TCPJ.

The new Lakeside campus was impressive at first sight. We love the library!

cotton candy breaths

They say it takes one to know one.

clouds3

I am thoughtful. I am careful. I am unpredictable. I am moody. I am lethargic. I am creative. I am lazy. I am brave. I am cranky. I am quiet. I am lonely. I am tired.

Who else can be so similar and thus, really know me?

clouds2

I think it’s just a prime adolescent case of Nobody Understands Me.

clouds

Some really lovely clouds pictures I took on the way back from Penang earlier this week. It was such a wonderful sight, heavy clouds looming on the wide sky heavily surrounding us in the middle of the highway. It’s moments like these which reminds me of the Creator. And you.

week #two, #three, #four okay forget it

Been procrastinating writing about the weekly holiday updates so I’ll just bunch them up together the best I can. Heh.

#Monday the 21st

Had for the first time, the infamous IKEA meatballs. And yummy Daim cake!

Ikea meal

And RM1 IKEA vanilla ice cream mmm~

 ikea icecream

After that, I forgot what I did and when. So in no particular order… :P

#1 Ah, durians! I used to love them. Then I hated them. Now, I don’t mind eating them.

durian

#2 This actually took place in week one but since I’ve already edited the picture, here it is. Had a really big craving for Carl’s Jr, so dragged Pik Ngan over there during the break working at the Mid Valley Edu Fair.

burger

#3 Went over to campus for a  Cambridge grammar competition. Was a waste of time, frankly, as we could’ve easily done it at home.

 computer

#4 Old-school toy! @gramma’s place toy

#5 Urbanscapes this year. Was pulled over by Sueann, and when she mentioned free-trip-to-Krabi I couldn’t help but jakunly overexcitedly said yes. Boy was embarrassed out of his wits I could tell.

tic

#6 Car wash! Yes one of those automatic ones, it was so so fun!

window

Actually there are more pictures yet but it’s 2.30am and I have something on important later on today and I just came back from Penang today so I’m supposed to be dead exhausted and I also had endless piano lessons after that and this sentence is never ending and so goodbye.

Oh oh and after I reread this post, I realised I did not mention that this all took place in June! Hehehe that’s how updated I am you know you love me xoxo kthxbai.

It's worrying.

I think I have separation anxiety.

7 best music videos of all time!

I seldom if ever watch music videos, probably because I don’t have MTV and I don’t very often surf Youtube if I can help it. However I still do stumble upon the occasional MV through the all-knowing Twitter or Facebook, only if I have nothing else better to do.

Songs however I listen to most of the time. Combining it with my recent love for very-much-Photoshopped media to create dreamy/ethereal/pretty images or videos, I have come out with a list of seven of my most favourite music videos of my favourite music of all times. Or rather, of the moment. (Seven because I can only think of these in the moment, and not forcing myself to like others just to get a round number like 10)

So, in no particular order:

#1 Jason Castro: Let’s Just Fall In Love Again

This is one of my most favourite MVs of all time! Was never really a fan of Jason Castro but after I discovered that he had really blue eyes I just swooned. Love the edited tint of the video, the gorgeous girl, the lovely camera, the moving photographs….and the way they prance around he serenades her so sweetly! Love love love!

Oh oh I think I have one of the top she was wearing!

This is number one because I love it so much, everything after that is second onwards. :)

#2 Owl City: Vanilla Twilight

Gorgeous lighthouse, snow covered grounds, heavenly skies and lovely song to boot; this is truly a magical-themed video.

Watching this video has such a calming effect, reminding me of love and  having someone beside you to share all the lovely moments in life such as when viewing the ‘daytime aurora’.

#3 Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg: California Gurls

Cotton candy clouds, cupcake bras and giant candy mint sticks! Guys would love almost bare-naked Katy Perry.

First thing that comes to mind watching this video is Alice in Wonderland, except that this is a much much more colourful and less darker version. Before I saw this video I thought that they’d do something like girls in bikinis on a beach and stuff (because that’s what comes to mind when people mention California) so to me this isn’t really appropriate BUT it’s uber cute and makes me crave sugar.

I wonder if it’s really cotton candy she’s lying on or just pink cotton.

#4 Owl City: Fireflies

i want their organ! I can so imagine him composing the song in his room and and the toys starting to move and lights blinking as the music flows.

#5 Katy Perry: Thinking Of You

This song is one of the most emotional song I’ve ever heard; you can always hear the deep emotions in Katy Perry singing this song. I definitely prefer this video to the initial one where she’s just sitting in a white room, because I always love a good short movie, and this is a very nice depiction of what the song is about.

She (and him) is so hot and the vintage (very Topshop-ique) clothing and accessories are to die for, especially the killer shoes she wears throughout the video!

Did you know that every time I listen to a number of specific songs it reminds me of certain people? And sometimes they just ruin it for you forever? Well I’m glad I like this song more.

#6 Paramore: The Only Exception

The only reason I Youtubed this video was because of the song which i initially heard on radio – and liked! I’m really glad Paramore not only does rockish songs because this is such a lovely soulful pop rendition.

In this video, Hayley Williams goes through a never-ending series of doors and then finally doubling back to her sleeping boyfriend, when she finally realizes it is him whom she really wants.

#7 B.o.B. ft Bruno Mars: Nothin’ On You

This is such a cute song and video with cut-outs and cartoonish effects. I’m sure there are many music videos out there with similar concepts, but this is one of the most recent ones which I’ve seen.

The cut-out images of the girls are so adorable. And did you realise that there weren’t any blondes?
