life lessons #123

More Life Lessons from Samantha.

#1 When your heart goes a-flutter…it is not necessarily a good sign.

#2 What’s with people who stand behind you and stare at your computer screen like nobody’s business? Have you never heard of the term MYOB?

#3 Related to #2, I also don’t get ‘friends’ who come and stand beside you while you’re at the ATM machine, looking at you type your password and settle your private stuff. The next time this happens, I don’t care if you’re my cousin or we’ve been friends for the past 10 years, I WILL tell you off.

#4 They say that it takes more muscles to frown than to smile, but I disagree.

#5 It’s not as easy as you think, finding someone who you can tell everything to…without being labelled World’s Worst Whiner. And no, it cannot just be absolutely anyone.

#6 Imagine Life without colours. Depression follows shortly after.

#7 Do things to please yourself. Doing it for the sake of others seldom work.

#8 It doesn’t take much persuading these days for me to just buy something that catches my eye on impulse, because I know that nobody in the world should do this for me, other than myself.

#9 Is it so truly hard to find a job that you love doing, pays well with plenty of perks and also impossibly, have good colleagues and bosses that treat you well? It will be so hard for one to get up everyday to do something that you do not enjoy, working with people you do not enjoy seeing. It will take a huge toll on you, but I assure you that you should not be doing this any further than you can take. Life is too short to be wasted hating it.

#10 ‘Love’ is always different than what you’ve always expected it to be.

about me?

I got carried away writing a new "About Me" and ended up boring myself to tears. Here's if you're bored and the next best thing to do is jump into an empty swimming pool.

About Me (as updated on September 29th, 1.30am)

What about me? Well the first is that you’d probably learn more about me here than in five years of knowing me, seeing as I don’t really like talking about myself.

Ha ha what a joke, I read somewhere that EVERYONE likes talking about themselves. That’s why we have “About Me” sections! And self important narcissist who blogs about their feelings day in day out, vain people who post up ‘self portraits’…and Facebook.

Uh oh.

I like to write. Or at least, I tell myself that I like to write. Writing is fun. It’s a quiet activity. Most of the time you do not need to speak to someone during the whole duration of this particular hobby.

I think most of us like to write because you can write and not be judged. You can read your old scribblings and essays and think that you are actually a really intelligent and natural talent. To further interest potential writers, you can also have Microsoft Word to correct your spelling! And that is why boys and girls, most of us call ourselves ‘writers’. We write an essay for school: Oh I’m a writer. We write a letter of opinion to the newspaper: Oh I’m a writer. We write short cryptic blog posts: Oh I’m a writer.

Well, don’t let people tell you what to do with your life.

As you could have gathered from the above paragraph, I don’t really like to talk. Well again it depends on who I am with at the moment (don’t we all?), and whether it’s the time of the month.

Right, now that you’ve rolled your eyes at least once reading this, let’s move on. I fancy myself as a self-gratifying photographer. I take pictures of just anything but sadly it largely depends on my mood (what to say, I AM a Cancerian!) and whether my hands are clean of any food item.

I also only post up pictures where I look good (I really don’t care about how you look) and after editing them the best I can in Photoshop or PhotoScape (now I don’t claim to be very good in ‘em but I know the basics) I’ll only post them up on this blog or my tumblr. Facebook doesn’t count because I really don’t care how you look like.

Next…I should really probably talk about my previous “About Me”, where I mentioned I was a vain narcissistic serial camwhorer. I am proud to announce that I have grown out of that stage!

Yes, I have found my way to better hobbies.

Or it might be that I am currently undergoing an adolescent crisis and don’t think myself pretty anymore. Either way, you will not see many pictures of me posing with a fake pout and peepers straining to appear as huge and doe-eye as possible.

Really, this is getting way too long than my original 100-word intention.

But you’re in this page for a reason, and I intend to bring you closer to The World That Makes Sam Tick!

(cue lame suspense music)

Let’s talk about my new hobbies. Scrapbooking, reading (picked it up from where I left it years ago!), getting sick and moaning about it on Twitter, editing pictures to make them tumblr-worthy, in other words emo-fied, and constantly wondering how to earn more cash. Okay that was crudely put, so perhaps I shall put it in another way: How to gain financial freedom!

Isn’t that everyone’s life aim? To be a millionaire and therefore, be happy forever?

Anyway, whoever said that money won’t make you happy has obviously never had to stay in an unhappy job, missing out on many things in life because you need money to pay for the other things in life.

Yes, moaning about the general things in Life is also my favourite hobby. Though I (really would like to!) think that I don’t do it so much in the public forum anymore, but more to certain people in my life. Or certain person, I’d like to say.

Even I can’t stand myself sometimes.

No pictures in this post. I am so boring, I know I know.

Penang, onboard Royale Star cruise ship, August 2010.

Only because tumblr is having some maintenance issue (again!).

Will write more when I’m inspired. Too many novels to read to have time for that!

im not unwell, just.

Your nose has failed you in filtering air and sending it to your lungs. Desperate, you have to resort to inhaling and exhaling through your mouth. You feel sad because with every huff and puff you take, you can almost feel your teeth, made straight with 5k-worth and almost 2 years of painful braces is shifting ever so slightly (but it is still!) from its rightful spot. Which is on a straight line with its cousins.

Desperately needing a word of assurance, a hug and a warm bowl of home cooked soup. And some good night sleep to take you away from the crazy world you cannot comprehend out there.

It's finally falling together, or apart...and you cannot tell until it happens.

beautiful twilight

(Edited only with slight contrast and vignette) Yes nature’s gorgeous.

-Penang August ‘10

Check out my tumblr for the quote versions!

PS: Off to another break at Penang. Been travelling (locally!) quite a lot these days. Also been a stressful few days trying to finish up my assigned work this holiday so that I can parteh the rest of the holidays away (to prep for the more stressful second half of the semester). I’m done for now though, so yeehaa!

PPS: Prepping for the rest of your life ahead isn’t easy business, but I think I know what I want already. Travel, eat, love. Yep, that’s my movie title.

I can tell you're in denial, get over it

Things I've learnt throughout 20 years and one and a half months of my life, observing human behaviour and contemplating life: (in random order, because that is Life)

#1 To get anything done, you'll have to do it yourself.

#2 In reference to #1: To witness a miracle, you'll have to do it yourself.

#3 Time spent waiting for someone to do what you secretly want is time wasted.

#4 People may seem to lead a happier/fun-ner life than you actually feel the same way towards you/others. (Here's where the green grass saying applies)

#5 Buying things for others gives one a deeper sense of satisfaction than buying for oneself.

#6 However you can't make them do it, they have to want to do it themselves.

#7 Seemingly-innocent people who quietly manipulates you are the wisest.

#8 Sometimes it's good to take a day off work/class for no reason, just to recharge & re-evaluate your life.

#9 Try not to do things that makes you unhappy. Of course sometimes it might be near impossible, but sooner or later you will give up trying, so why waste time being unhappy?

#10 The best inspiration comes at night, so do keep pen & paper or even your phone to note them down.

#11 Things ALWAYS seem better in the morning.

#12 The older you get, the more you realise the importance of family and friendship.

#13 I'm no longer shy of eating alone at restaurants.

#14 Constantly pamper yourself, even if it means spending in facials, tech gadgets etc. You'll feel more inclined to continue living, as opposed to torturing yourself by 'working hard but not willing to reward self'.

#15 No point spending time agonising over even the hugest 'mistakes' you made as they are actually the last thing on everyone's mind.

#16 Spend some time doing what you like everyday: be it reading, Plants vs Zombies-ing, sketching...even if you're struggling to breathe through the tightest deadline.

#17 Realize that anticipation is much more exciting than the real thing.

#18 Sweet talking comes naturally to most men. Just smile and listen with half a mind reminding yourself that.

#19 Men who insult you whether jokingly or on purpose do not deserve respect. Spit on them and go on your way.

And no, you aren't being too harsh. It's called standing up for yourself.

#20 People bitch about others because deep down they feel inferior.

#21 Time is not a indicator of how well you truly know someone. All it really takes is effort.

#22 Insomnia is possibly the worst infliction on a human being. It combines loneliness with physical exhaustion, both which are 'killers' on their own.

#23 Work is doing something you don't enjoy.

#24 People who don't 'promote' how they feel, feels the most.

#25 There are people in this world whom you will simply not be able to get along with, ever. Just accept it and go on with your life.

#26 Messy is bad. It nags you constantly, feeling as if all is not well.

#27 Physical exercise is completely necessary if you don't want to go through life feeling lethargic & fragile. (I am one to talk, hmph)

#28 Wait. Be patient. Your time will come.

#29 Jealousy is unavoidable. Distract yourself and remind yourself of #28.

#30 Getting enough sleep is not a joke.

More inspirations to come your way another day as it's past 1am and I've been subscribing to my early nights philosophy.

Something to think about: Which of these do you agree with and which do you not?

free fallin’

-Look Out Point, Sept ‘10.

The last picture to show you my current hair colour. Regardless of all the less-than-positive comments I’ve gotten from some people – I LOVE IT!

And that’s all that matters.

ways to procrastinate #213

Quick snack recipe: Scrambled tomato cheese omelette yums yums

Scrambled egg

Mix eggs, chopped tomatoes, cheese powder & pepper. Pour into hot pan greased by butter (healthier than oil) then stir and scramble it. You’ll know when it’s ready. Serve hot with a glob of ketchup.

Repeat whenever necessary (read: procrastinating doing assignment)

In my defence, it IS the supposed Raya holidays!
